Austin, Texas – A beaver that had reportedly been trapped in a water treatment reservoir for several days was rescued by local animal protection and fire services.
Austin Animal Services reported that an officer responded to the facility after spotting the exhausted animal swimming in the reservoir. “When he arrived, it was clear the beaver was exhausted – there was only a small ledge to rest on, and it had likely been swimming for several days,” the agency said.
The officer requested help from the Austin Fire Department’s Firehouse 14, whose firefighters rigged a rope hoist to safely lift the beaver from the water.
Once rescued, the beaver was transported to Austin Wildlife Rescue to “rest, recover and enjoy some well-earned snacks,” according to authorities.
The incident highlights the quick coordination between animal protection officers and firefighters to save wildlife in distress.
