Mitchell County, North Carolina – Contractors supporting the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers began removing debris from Bear Creek on April 8, 2025. The effort targets vegetative and manmade materials clogging the waterway.
The cleanup includes tires and other obstructions left behind by Hurricane Helene. This work is part of a broader recovery mission following the storm’s impact on the region.
The goal is to restore natural water flow in Bear Creek. Clearing the debris helps reduce flood risk for nearby areas and improves safety for local communities.
