Armored Trucks Surround Vehicle As SWAT Arrests Gunman At Tampa Apartment Complex

Tampa, Florida – A man was arrested by SWAT officers after armored trucks surrounded his vehicle at the Viridian Apartments on July 30, 2025.

The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call at 9:59 a.m. about an erratic individual at the complex on the 2300 block of Campus Club Court.

Deputies found that Andrew Tsinkelis, 29, had opened fire on a golf cart occupied by the apartment manager and assistant manager. The glass was shattered by the gunfire, causing minor injuries to the woman inside.

“Tsinkelis had no regard for the safety of those around him as he fired this weapon,” said Sheriff Chad Chronister.

Two nearby apartments were also hit by stray bullets, though no other injuries were reported.

After the shooting, Tsinkelis barricaded himself inside his car in the parking lot, repeatedly pointing a firearm at his head while behaving in a threatening manner.

Deputies attempted to calm the situation, but Tsinkelis refused to exit the vehicle. The SWAT team responded, deploying armored trucks to surround him.

Gas canisters were used but failed to bring the standoff to an end. SWAT officers advanced with ballistic shields, deployed a taser, and successfully pulled Tsinkelis from the vehicle.

“What could have been a tragic day for our community was prevented by the skill and courage of our deputies and SWAT team,” said Sheriff Chronister.

Tsinkelis was charged with two counts of attempted second-degree murder with firearm discharge, shooting at or within a vehicle, criminal mischief, unlawful discharge of a firearm, and battery on a law-enforcement officer.

The investigation is ongoing. Further updates will come from the Public Affairs Office.
