Ancient Oak Transformed Into River Of Light At Holiday Garden Event

Murrells Inlet, South Carolina – A video posted on X by Austin Bond Photo, a scenic photographer focused on the Murrells Inlet and Pawleys Island areas, captures a striking nighttime moment from the annual Nights of a Thousand Candles holiday event at Brookgreen Gardens.

The footage centers on a massive, ancient live oak tree draped in Spanish moss. Thousands of warm white Christmas lights hang in long vertical strands from its wide-reaching branches, forming a glowing curtain that resembles a rain of light or an enchanted canopy.

As the camera slowly pans and tilts upward, the illuminated strands reveal the tree’s textured trunk, cascading moss, and shimmering lights set against the dark night sky.

In the background, small groups of visitors can be seen walking along mulched garden paths, pausing to admire the display.

The Nights of a Thousand Candles event is known for featuring more than one million hand-lit candles and extensive string lighting spread throughout the gardens’ oak allées and sculptures, attracting large crowds each December.
