Lititz, PA – The airplane involved in the accident was recently recovered on a flatbed truck, revealing the full scale of the crash. Investigators reported that the fuselage was destroyed and the aircraft sustained severe thermal damage consistent with a post-crash fire.
All five passengers were transported to Lancaster General Hospital, where trauma and emergency teams provided immediate care. Two patients were later flown by PennSTAR to Lehigh Valley Health Network’s burn center, and another was transported there by ground ambulance. The remaining two passengers were discharged from Lancaster General on Sunday night.
A portion of the main cabin door latch was recovered and appeared normal, but the rest of the mechanism was missing, showing the extreme force of the impact.
The turboprop engine remained attached but exhibited extensive impact and fire damage. A large crack in the gearbox and the propeller separating from the drive shaft reflected the violent collision.
The propeller hub stayed intact, though all three blades showed bending, twisting, and gouges, emphasizing the destructive forces involved. Cockpit controls were found near the full forward position, indicating the airplane was under power at the time of the crash.
The NTSB continues to examine the wreckage to determine the exact sequence of events that led to this catastrophic accident.
