Air Force Hurricane Hunters Fly Into Eye Of Hurricane Erin

Atlantic Ocean – On August 16, 2025, a WC-130J Super Hercules from the 53rd Weather Reconnaissance Squadron flew directly into the eye of Hurricane Erin.

The squadron, widely known as the Air Force Reserve Hurricane Hunters, carried out the mission to collect vital atmospheric data for the National Hurricane Center.

These flights provide critical information that strengthens forecasts and helps safeguard lives and property along coastal regions.

The 53rd Weather Reconnaissance Squadron is part of the 403rd Wing, based at Keesler Air Force Base in Mississippi.
