Rare Tornado Touchdown Caught On Camera During Severe Storm In Texas

Cleburne, Texas – Video filmed by X user Tyler from Texas shows two dashboard-style clips recorded from inside a moving vehicle on a highway in Cleburne during a severe thunderstorm. Heavy rain streaks across the windshield as wipers move back and forth, while strong winds sweep dust, debris, and spray over the wet roadway.

Vehicles ahead are visible only by their glowing red taillights beneath a massive, dark storm cloud base. A bright yellow “LANE ENDS MERGE LEFT” sign stands on the grassy median to the right. In the second clip, an on-screen message tells viewers to “Look just to the right of the pole to the merge sign!” where a faint, low-structure condensation funnel briefly reaches the ground through blowing rain and dust before lifting almost immediately.

The footage was shared with the caption: “I caught the moment Cleburne, Texas tornado first touched down (and immediately lifted). There was barely any structure to this tornado, but I’m still excited that I was one of the few who got footage of it!” It was recorded on the evening of April 28, 2026, as a tornado-warned supercell moved through Johnson County.

The National Weather Service had issued warnings for the Cleburne area as the storm produced strong rotation, possible brief tornadoes, heavy rain, and damaging winds. Although this touchdown was short-lived and weak, the wider storm system led to reported damage across the county, with no injuries or fatalities reported in Cleburne.
