State Trooper Uses Surfboard To Rescue Hypothermic Teen From Frozen Lake In Alaska

Kodiak, USA – A dramatic rescue involving an Alaska State Trooper, a teenager, a surfboard, and an icy lake was captured on camera after a teen fell through ice in Kodiak.

The incident occurred on April 19 on Island Lake, located in Kodiak, roughly 410 miles south of Anchorage. According to authorities, the teenager, a local resident, broke through the ice. Officials did not say why he was on the frozen surface.

Responding Trooper Anthony Will quickly acted, using a surfboard provided by a nearby resident to move across the unstable ice. He reached the teen, who was described as “hypothermic,” and pulled him onto the board.

During the rescue, the teen slipped back into the water, but Trooper Will immediately pulled him out again.

Sgt. Nathan Walsh then assisted by throwing a tow strap toward the trooper and the teen. The strap was secured to the surfboard, and both were pulled safely toward shore.

The teenager was brought to medical care and was heard repeatedly thanking the emergency responders who saved him.
