Spectacular Mammatus Clouds Glow Over Missouri Sky After Severe Storms

Imperial, USA – A handheld video filmed by X user Rob Darnell shows striking mammatus clouds covering the evening sky over Imperial, Missouri.

The footage captures the unusual pouch-like cloud formations hanging beneath storm clouds, illuminated in golden-orange and pink tones by the setting sun. Filmed from a suburban backyard, the camera slowly pans across the sky, revealing houses, trees, green grass, a large green dumpster, and parked vehicles including a white Kia and a black truck in the foreground.

The video was shared with the caption, “Calm here now in Imperial Mo but man these clouds,” and was recorded on April 27, 2026, shortly after a severe thunderstorm with a tornado warning passed through the St. Louis area.

Residents in Imperial and nearby Oakville also shared similar images and videos of the rare cloud formations at sunset, following storms that brought strong winds, large hail, and tornado threats across the region.

The clip highlights one of the most visually dramatic moments after the severe weather moved through the area.
