Pena de Riglos, Huesca, Spain – A 71-year-old French climber was safely rescued after becoming stuck on a vertical rock face during a climb in the Riglos area on April 20, 2026.
The climber became stranded on the Via Endrija route in the Pena de Riglos climbing area and was unable to continue or descend on his own. He was not injured but remained stuck on the steep cliff.
The rescue was carried out by the GREIM mountain rescue team from Huesca, supported by the local aerial unit. Teams on the ground and in the air were both deployed due to the difficult vertical terrain.
Footage from the operation shows steep reddish-orange sandstone cliffs rising sharply into a clear blue sky. Rescue personnel are seen carefully moving across rocky slopes using ropes, harnesses, and climbing equipment.
A Guardia Civil helicopter is shown hovering close to the cliff face. It moves near the rock walls while preparing for extraction, highlighting the complexity of the operation.
The coordinated response combined ground movement along the cliffs with aerial support to reach the stranded climber.
The man was successfully evacuated without incident. No injuries were reported.
