Tornado Smoke Column Rises Over Recycling Plant Fire In Almonte

Almonte, Huelva, Spain – A massive fire at a recycling plant in the Montehigos area produced an enormous rotating column of black smoke that surged into the sky during an emergency response on April 20, 2026.

The footage shows a dense plume of thick black smoke rising violently from the burning site. The column twists and churns as it climbs, forming a tornado-like shape caused by extreme heat and powerful upward air movement from burning agricultural plastics and waste.

The video was recorded from a safe distance in a rural area, with scrubland and pine trees visible in the foreground. Above them, the smoke mass expands rapidly, dominating the sky over the landscape.

The fire broke out at a long-disused recycling facility that previously handled agricultural plastics. Authorities described the smoke as potentially toxic and warned nearby residents to keep windows and doors closed.

Emergency services launched a large-scale response, deploying reinforcement fire brigades, forest firefighters, a technical operations specialist, an environmental agent, a water tanker truck, and a heavy helicopter.

The goal of the operation was to contain the blaze and stop it from spreading into nearby forested areas surrounding the site.

The fire was later brought under control and fully extinguished. Officials confirmed that only minimal impact occurred in surrounding forest land.
