Young Man Critically Injured After ATV Overturns In Parres Mountain Tragedy

Parres, Spain – A young man is in intensive care at the University Hospital of Asturias after suffering severe injuries when an ATV overturned in a mountainous forest area in Parres.

The accident occurred in the Sotu Deu area, around seven kilometres from Arriondas, while the vehicle was travelling along forest tracks and overturned.

The injured man called for help, prompting the Civil Guard to deploy its Mountain Rescue and Intervention Group based in Cangas de Onís.

Rescue teams located the man, immobilised him, and carried out an initial medical assessment to check for possible open wounds. Once stabilised, he was carried on a stretcher for around 500 metres to an official vehicle.

He was then transported to Soto de Dego, where he was handed over to emergency medical services approximately 25 minutes after being found.

The man was first taken by ambulance to Arriondas Hospital and later transferred in the afternoon to the University Hospital of Asturias due to the seriousness of his injuries, where he was admitted to intensive care.

The Asturias emergency helicopter was not deployed, as the Civil Guard handled the rescue operation and coordinated with emergency services for ambulance transport.
