Powerful Cone Tornado Carves Through Minnesota Farmland In Rare Early Season Chase

Truman, United States – A powerful tornado swept across open farmland near Truman, Minnesota, as storm chasers captured dramatic footage during a severe weather outbreak.

Video filmed by X user Jonas Hinderer shows what he described as one of the most impressive tornadoes he has ever seen, marking his first tornado experience in Minnesota.

The shaky handheld footage, recorded from a rural roadside or vehicle and stitched from multiple angles, shows a large cone-shaped tornado moving across plowed fields. A thick funnel extends from the storm base, with a violent debris cloud churning at ground level.

Dust and vegetation are lifted into the air as the tornado advances steadily across the flat landscape beneath heavy storm clouds. At moments, sunlight breaks through the haze, briefly illuminating the structure of the storm.

The camera pans and zooms to follow the tornado’s rotation, with hints of multiple-vortex activity visible at times. In the distance, trees, farm buildings, and scattered rural structures line the horizon.

The post states: “One of the best tornadoes I have ever seen. Also my first tornado in Minnesota! An absolute sight to see and couldn’t have got it done with out the help of my team.”

The tornado was confirmed near Truman during a multi-day severe weather outbreak across the Midwest in mid-April 2026, which also brought large hail and damaging winds across the region.
