Masonite Road Bushfire Sends Towering Smoke Over Highway Near Tomago

Tomago, Australia – A bushfire near Masonite Road sent a large plume of smoke rising above a busy highway as firefighters worked to contain the blaze.

Video filmed by X user NSW Rural Fire Service shows dashcam-style footage from a vehicle moving along a curving multi-lane highway under clear blue skies.

The camera passes concrete barriers, metal guardrails, and tall noise walls as the road bends gently forward. To the left, a dense column of white and grey smoke rises from bushland filled with trees and vegetation beyond the highway infrastructure.

As the vehicle continues, the smoke expands and drifts across the sky, dominating one side of the view. A white vehicle is briefly visible ahead in the same lane during the drive.

The post states: “Advice: Masonite Rd Fire, Tomago (Port Stephens LGA) Firefighters are working to control a fire burning west of Masonite Rd, Tomago. The fire is burning in an easterly direction towards Masonite Road. There is currently no threat to property.”

Fire crews were reported to be conducting operations to contain the fire, which broke out west of Masonite Road in a bushland area near a pine forest setting. The fire was moving eastward, with heavy smoke visible from the highway and surrounding areas.

Authorities confirmed there was no immediate threat to property at the time of the incident.
