Alaska Coast Guard Rescues Family From Ice-Trapped Vessel

Chefornak, United States – A Coast Guard helicopter crew carried out a rescue after a family became trapped on ice off the coast of Alaska.

An MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter aircrew from Coast Guard Air Station Kodiak rescued three adults and one child from an 18-foot vessel stranded on an ice floe approximately 10 miles west of Chefornak on April 12, 2026.

The family had been on a seal hunting expedition when their vessel became stuck in the ice.

After being trapped for more than 24 hours and seeing no way out, they requested assistance from the Coast Guard.

The helicopter crew extracted all four individuals from the ice-covered area.
