Rybnik, Poland – A woman jogging in Rybnik alerted authorities after spotting an agouti, a Central American rodent similar in size and appearance to a large guinea pig.
Forestry officials in Rybnik said the report was made in late March after the animal was seen in a wooded area.
A spokesperson for Rybnik Forestry, Kacper Paturej, said the caller also provided a photo after reporting the sighting.
He stated: “I’ve heard all kinds of unusual reports from callers, but then she sent a photo.”
Initial attempts to capture the animal were stopped after the cat-sized agouti became aggressive.
The rodent was later handled by specialists from a wildlife rehabilitation center and is now under their care.
Officials believe the agouti likely escaped from a nearby private enclosure.
