Massive Fire Sends Thick Black Smoke Over Key Mexico Oil Facility

Paraiso, Mexico – A dramatic fire broke out at the Dos Bocas refinery and port complex in Paraiso, Tabasco, on April 9, 2026, sending a towering column of dense black smoke into the sky.

Footage filmed by X user Reyes Aguilar shows intense orange flames burning among industrial tanks, pipelines, and structures within the facility. Workers wearing red overalls and hard hats are seen gathered near a perimeter fence, watching the blaze unfold.

Reports from Mexican media state that the fire started in the early afternoon in one of the storage or processing sections of the complex. Emergency crews from Petroleos Mexicanos (PEMEX) and state services quickly arrived at the scene to battle the flames.

The fire was later brought under control the same day. No injuries or deaths were reported, but the incident raised concern due to the importance of the site as a major energy project in Mexico.
