Marana, Arizona – The U.S. Army Parachute Team, known as the Golden Knights, visited Pima Airport from March 31 to April 2, 2026, giving local residents a rare chance to experience military-style tandem skydives.
Over the three-day event, the team completed 37 tandem jumps for civilians from southern Arizona. This marked the first dedicated tandem jump event in the state, though the unit has previously performed demonstrations and competitions in Arizona.
Sgt. 1st Class Matthew Garner, a tandem instructor and event videographer, captured dramatic footage of a tandem jump high above the Arizona desert on April 2. The clip shows both freefall and canopy phases, highlighting the thrill of the experience.
First-time skydiver Liza Steele said, “This was my first skydive. It was fantastic, everything I expected it to be. I’d love to go again right now. My instructor was just incredible.”
Jessie Hammit, who had previously jumped with private operators, added, “My jump was a lot more fun. They really gave me an overall better experience. I felt secure, fully briefed on safety, and they made me feel so comfortable.”
Col. Steven Weber, Commander of the Phoenix Recruiting Battalion, praised the feedback. “I have nothing but positive comments from the passengers. They didn’t even know they could do something like this, so they were super excited. We look forward to future events with the team.”
Sgt. 1st Class Garner noted, “It was a great event. We were able to adapt and operate in a new environment and get exposure to a new region. I look forward to going back.”
The Golden Knights serve as the Army’s premier aerial demonstration and community engagement unit. Their tandem program allows civilians to jump with trained parachutists, building public connections while supporting Army recruiting.
