Great Lakes, United States – The U.S. Coast Guard continues ice-breaking operations across the Great Lakes during the winter months of 2025 and 2026.

Ice-breaking cutters are actively breaking up ice to assist, free, escort, and move vessels navigating the frozen waters.

These efforts support Operation Taconite and Operation Coal Shovel, two major domestic ice-breaking initiatives in the United States that have a significant impact on national commerce.
