Laveno-Mombello, Italy – Since Sunday, April 5, 2026, firefighters have been actively combating a forest fire in the Monteggia area of Laveno Mombello, in the province of Varese.

A Canadair from the National Fire Brigade’s fleet and a regional firefighting helicopter have been deployed to support ground operations.

Firefighting efforts continued through the night into Monday, April 6, as teams worked to control the flames. Drone footage equipped with thermal imaging cameras captured the fire fronts, aiding the coordination and direction of the ground crews.

Authorities emphasize the importance of aerial reconnaissance in effectively targeting the fire and reducing risks to personnel.
