Police Officer Saves Toddler From Choking

Atlanta, United States – On March 23, 2026, Sgt. Houston of the APD Homicide Unit was canvassing the area of 595 Piedmont Avenue for a missing person when she heard a woman screaming, “My baby, my baby!”

The child, a 3-year-old, was not breathing and losing consciousness. Sgt. Houston immediately left her patrol vehicle and ran to help. She began providing lifesaving aid, performing CPR while calling Grady EMS.

Observing that the child was choking, she continued compressions, turned him on his side, and worked to clear his airway. After several tense minutes, the toddler regained consciousness and began breathing as Grady EMS arrived. He was transported to the hospital for further treatment.

The child’s mother thanked Sgt. Houston for her quick actions. The Atlanta Police Department also recognized Sgt. Houston, who is a mother herself, for her decisive response that saved the toddler’s life.
