Boise, Idaho – A firefighter took on last year’s Striker Fire in Idaho by driving a massive 60,000-pound bulldozer to build firelines through rugged sagebrush terrain.

The operation required navigating lava fields, avoiding buried pipelines, and protecting sensitive ecosystems, all while supporting wildfire suppression efforts.

Bulldozers, heavy machines adapted for wildland firefighting, are essential for constructing firebreaks across difficult landscapes, from sagebrush plains to steep mountains. Their size and maneuverability allow firefighters to create barriers that slow the spread of fire and safeguard communities.

Riding along the fireline, the firefighter skillfully guided the bulldozer, cutting through vegetation and clearing paths that helped control the wildfire and protect nearby areas.

The work highlighted the crucial role of specialized machinery and trained personnel in managing wildfires, combining raw power with precision to fight some of the West’s most challenging blazes.
