Lake Havasu, AZ – Deputies raced to the scene after a sudden boat explosion on Lake Havasu on Friday, March 20, rescuing three men from the water and battling a fierce fire on the vessel.
Body camera footage shows a man in the lake with a bleeding leg. “Just exploded,” he told deputies as they applied a tourniquet while he sat in the patrol boat.
Two more men were in the water when deputies arrived. One suffered burns, while the other reported no injuries. Updates on their conditions have not been provided.
From the deputies’ arrival at Thompson Bay to bringing the fire under control, the entire response lasted about six minutes. Another group of boaters assisted in getting the men to safety.
Smoke and flames rose from the stern as deputies approached. Two small extinguishers failed to put out the fire. Responders then used the boat’s motor to flood the flames twice, finally extinguishing the blaze.
