Newark, United States – A dramatic plume of thick black smoke soared into the clear blue sky near Newark Liberty International Airport, drawing attention across the region.
Handheld footage taken from the airport grounds between 2:30 and 2:45 p.m. on March 26, 2026, shows the dark column of smoke billowing upward, with airport buildings and runways visible in the background.
The smoke originated from a brush fire that began outdoors in the Port Newark area, near 900 Doremus Avenue and 635 Delancy Street, right next to the airport’s eastern perimeter. The fire spread to a nearby building, prompting a two-alarm response from the Newark Fire Department.
All occupants had evacuated safely before firefighters brought the blaze under control between 4:15 and 4:30 p.m. No injuries were reported. The heavy smoke was visible for miles across North Jersey and even reached parts of Staten Island.
Although the sight caused brief concern among travelers, flight operations were not significantly disrupted.
The person who recorded the scene described it as “Fire near Newark EWR airport just 15 minutes ago”.
