Friendly Blue Vienna Rabbits Star In Vienna Zoo Easter Festivities

Vienna, Austria – Easter is approaching at Schönbrunn Zoo, and visitors are being welcomed by the newest residents of the Tyrolean Farm: Blue Vienna rabbits. Known for their dark blue fur and friendly, inquisitive nature, these domestic rabbits originally come from Vienna and have become popular pets.

Zoo Director Dr. Stephan Hering-Hagenbeck said, “Due to their friendly and inquisitive nature, Blue Vienna rabbits are now popular pets.” Alongside the “Easter Bunny,” guests can enjoy the lively Tauern Spotted Goats and watch chicks of the endangered Sulmtaler chicken breed hatch and grow.

From March 30 to April 2, the Zoo Orangery will host a colorful Easter workshop. Mondays and Tuesdays run from 9:00 a.m. to 4:45 p.m., and Wednesdays and Thursdays from 9:00 a.m. to 5:45 p.m. Children can paint and decorate Easter cards, make animal-themed decorations for their Easter tree, and enjoy the highlight of this year’s workshop: “little chicks on a stick.”

The Easter program is free, with only the zoo entrance fee required. Visitors looking for gifts can purchase a gift certificate for an annual pass.
