Mountain Biker Critically Injured In Fontana Race Rescued By Helicopter

Fontana, United States – On March 21, 2026, at 2:03 pm, San Bernardino County Fire crews responded to the Jurupa Hills area for a mountain bike racer who sustained a major leg injury during a race.

Paramedic care was provided quickly with assistance from race organizers, but the severity of the injury and the rugged terrain required a hoist rescue from a San Bernardino County sheriff helicopter.

Once treated and secured, the patient was flown directly to a local trauma center for further care.

A personal drone was spotted near the incident, raising safety concerns, as unauthorized drones can create mid-air collision hazards, force emergency aircraft to land, and put both first responders and victims at risk.

Responding units included one engine company, one rescue company, one truck company, one battalion chief, one ambulance, one public information officer, and one sheriff rescue helicopter.
