Granada, Spain – Over six days, the Policía Nacional carried out a major operation in the North district of Granada, resulting in the dismantling of 17 indoor marijuana cultivation sites. The raids involved more than 130 officers, including specialized units such as UPR, UIP, the Special Cavalry Unit, GOIT, and Police Judicial teams.
The operation began on Saturday at 10 p.m. in the Cartuja neighborhood, with officers performing three residential searches and 15 static checkpoints. Authorities conducted 210 identifications, inspected 69 vehicles, issued 12 administrative sanctions, and made two arrests.
On Thursday, police executed judicially authorized searches of 19 homes, discovering active marijuana plantations in 17 of them. Investigators seized nearly 5,600 plants from setups featuring sophisticated lighting, ventilation, and temperature control systems designed to accelerate growth.
The operation also included inspections of electrical installations in 86 properties alongside Endesa personnel, revealing all had illegal connections. Four individuals were identified as responsible for electricity fraud, while three others were arrested for the same offense and charged with drug trafficking.
Authorities emphasized that the operation targeted the illegal cannabis cultivation while ensuring public safety and disrupting organized drug production. Investigations continue to determine ownership and full responsibility for the plantations.
