Cottonwood Fire Raging Across Western Nebraska

Lincoln County, Nebraska, United States – Crews continue battling the Cottonwood Fire in central Nebraska, which has reached about 80 percent containment, as smoke and flames remain visible west of Jeffrey Reservoir.

Evacuation orders for residents of Jeffrey Lake have been lifted, but fire officials warn flare-ups in dense vegetation are still being monitored within established firelines.

Hand crews are constructing firelines around the edges of the blaze, while National Guard helicopters drop water on active areas to support ground operations.

The dramatic video near the Cottonwood Fire was captured late yesterday evening by Nebraska Forest Service Fire Management Officer Andrew Giralt, highlighting the ongoing suppression work and challenging conditions. The poster noted that situational updates will be shared throughout the day.
