Fireball Meteor Streaks Across Moon Township Sky Causing Sonic Boom

Moon Township, United States – A massive fireball meteor blazed across the morning sky over Moon Township on March 17, 2026, creating a powerful sonic boom that rattled the region.

Security camera footage captured the meteor as it moved rapidly from left to right, glowing bright white-orange and leaving a luminous trail as it fragmented high in the atmosphere. The dramatic event occurred at 8:56 a.m. under clear daylight conditions, with no other visible activity in the sky.

The sonic boom prompted numerous reports to Allegheny County’s 911 center, with residents describing a “fireball in the sky.” NASA confirmed the object was roughly 6 feet wide, weighed about 17,000 pounds, and traveled around 44,000 mph before breaking apart.

No fragments reached the ground, and no injuries or damage were reported. The footage provides a detailed view of the meteor’s high-altitude descent, highlighting both its size and the intensity of the event.

The poster described it as “Our security cameras captured the supposed meteor in the sky here in Moon. Our 911 center received calls from around the county reporting a ‘fireball in the sky’.”
