Dangerous Gas Leak Shuts Foothill Blvd In Upland, Crews Race To Contain Rupture

Upland, California – Just after 2:30 p.m. on March 10, San Bernardino County Fire responded to a gas leak on Foothill Boulevard east of Benson Avenue after contractors struck a gas line.

Medic Engine 163 arrived to find a four-inch main line releasing a moderate volume of natural gas. Fire crews immediately established an exclusion zone to protect the public. Air monitoring confirmed there was no threat beyond the zone, and no evacuations were required.

Firefighters remained on scene to assist SoCalGas personnel as they worked to secure the rupture. Four valves were installed and a bladder inserted to stop the flow. Repairs were completed around 8:15 p.m., ending the leak.

Foothill Boulevard was closed throughout the operation to allow crews to safely manage the situation. No injuries were reported.
