River City, Florida, United States – On Monday, March 2, 2026, Officers Shawn Crocker and Phil Massicotte responded to River City Marketplace after a toddler was accidentally locked inside a car with the keys inside.
The child’s mother called for help immediately, and the officers arrived within five minutes.
The toddler had unbuckled himself from his car seat, making it unsafe for the officers to simply break the window. Using special tools, they were able to open the car door safely and return the child to his mother in under 10 minutes.
Authorities warned that with warm weather already arriving, vehicles can heat up quickly, even with windows slightly open. They urged parents and guardians to call for help immediately if a child becomes trapped inside a car.
