Hundreds Of Thousands Rally In Tehran To Pledge Allegiance To New Supreme Leader, Iran Says

Tehran, Iran – The Government of Iran released aerial footage showing a massive gathering in Enghelab‑e Eslami Square on March 9, 2026, where people assembled following the appointment of Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei as the new supreme leader.

The video shows a dense crowd around a large central fountain and extending into the surrounding streets under partly cloudy skies. Participants waved Iranian national flags in red, white, and green and held up large portraits of both Mojtaba Khamenei and his late father, Ali Khamenei.

According to the footage, people from various walks of life participated in the rally. Demonstrators chanted slogans including “Death to America, Death to Israel” and “God is Great,” expressing defiance and pledging loyalty to the new supreme leader amid ongoing tensions.

Officials described the event as one of several nationwide gatherings held one day after Iran’s Assembly of Experts announced Mojtaba Khamenei’s appointment, succeeding his father who was killed during recent strikes.

The government‑released video was recorded amid continuing conflict in the region and reflects the authorities’ depiction of public support for the leadership transition.
