Jacksonville, Florida, United States – Earlier this week, Jacksonville authorities responded to a tip about a submerged vehicle in Clapboard Creek. The city’s Dive Unit quickly entered the water and located the oyster-encrusted car.
The vehicle was initially thought to belong to a missing person, but officers found no evidence of human remains. As the investigation continued, it was determined that the car did not belong to the missing individual.
Further inquiry revealed the vehicle had been reported stolen out of Columbia County.
Jacksonville officials noted that roughly 13% of the city’s area is water, highlighting the importance of having specialized teams like the Dive Unit and Marine Unit ready to operate wherever needed.
Authorities also thanked the volunteer group Rapid Compassion Collective, which assists in searching waterways for missing persons and had reported the submerged vehicle to police.
