Heroic Rescue: Officer and Good Samaritans Save 78-Year-Old From Fiery Crash

Easton, MA – A 78-year-old driver was rescued from a burning vehicle on February 27 at around 2:30 a.m. after a three-car crash on Route 138, officials said.

Easton Patrol Officer Dean Soucie arrived first and found two cars engulfed in flames. Bystanders alerted him that a person was trapped inside one of the vehicles.

Body camera video showed the tense moments as the officer, with the help of two good Samaritans, broke the driver’s side window and pulled the man to safety.

The driver, a Raynham resident, was transported by ambulance with serious injuries, though police said they were not believed to be life-threatening.

The crash began when a 2013 Ford F-350 traveling southbound struck the back of an unoccupied 1993 Mack dump truck disabled on the roadside and filled with snow. The force trapped the pickup’s driver, who was the sole occupant.

A 2024 Toyota Camry then collided with the rear of the pickup and immediately caught fire. The Camry’s driver was able to exit the vehicle without injury.
