Genesee County, US – On February 20th, 2026, two young children with special needs were rescued from a home in shocking conditions after being abandoned by their mother. The situation came to light thanks to a concerned neighbor who called 911.
Officers responding to the welfare check found a house overwhelmed by neglect. Trash covered the floors, a faucet ran endlessly, and feces smeared the walls at child height. The children had no food, clean clothes, or access to communication. One child was found attempting to eat raw, spoiled meat out of hunger, while the other curled up on the bedroom floor, left alone and vulnerable.
Investigators quickly confirmed the children had been left for days without supervision or care. Their mother prioritized herself over their safety, leaving them to survive on their own in unsafe conditions.
Thanks to the neighbor’s call, officers and detectives acted swiftly. The children were removed from the home and placed in protective care, now safe from harm.
The Genesee County Prosecutor’s Office authorized charges against the mother, Krystal Farmer, including two counts of felony child abandonment, two counts of second-degree child abuse, two counts of second-degree child abuse in the presence of another child, and one count of felony lying to a peace officer during a violent crime investigation.
This case highlights the crucial impact a single call can make, ensuring the safety and protection of vulnerable children.
