NYS Route 231, Deer Park – Snow continued to accumulate on road surfaces as blowing snow reduced visibility and created hazardous travel conditions.
The New York State Department of Transportation on Long Island urged drivers to stay off the roads as crews work to clear highways. Officials stressed that plowing operations are more effective when traffic is minimal.
Conditions were described as rapidly deteriorating, with whiteouts and drifting snow making travel especially dangerous across the Hudson Valley, New York City, and Long Island.
Plows remain deployed across affected areas, including Route 25 in Commack, as crews battle ongoing snowfall and dangerous visibility. Authorities are advising residents statewide to avoid unnecessary travel and remain safe.
