Tense Air Standoff As USA F-16s Intercept Russian Planes Near Alaska

Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson, Alaska, US – On February 19, 2026, USA F-16 fighter jets intercepted Russian Tu-95 and Su-35 military aircraft near the Bering Strait. The operation was conducted under the guidance of the North American Aerospace Defense Command, which monitors airspace with a combination of satellites, ground-based radar, and airborne tracking systems.

The Russian planes were positively identified before being confronted by the F-16s. NORAD officials emphasized that the intercept demonstrated the United States’ readiness to respond to potential threats and maintain control over North American airspace.

“The layered defense network allows us to detect and track aircraft and inform appropriate actions,” a NORAD spokesperson said, highlighting the rapid coordination of fighter jets and surveillance assets.

The incident reflects ongoing vigilance in the region, with the U.S. maintaining a posture of presence and preparedness to counter any aerial incursions. No engagements occurred, and all aircraft returned safely to their bases.
