Lizzano in Belvedere, Italy – Saturday, February 21, 2026 – Five hikers were rescued after slipping on a steep slope in the Terzo Canalino area of Corno alle Scale.
The Bologna fire brigade and aerial rescue teams responded in the early afternoon. The terrain was too dangerous for ground access, so helicopters were used to reach the stranded climbers.
The Drago helicopter carried medical personnel directly to the site, allowing the teams to perform recoveries from the cliff face.
Three specialized national helicopter rescuers coordinated the operation, while additional 118 medical helicopters assisted to ensure all five hikers were safely brought down.
The successful rescue highlights the skill and bravery of Italy’s aerial and mountain rescue teams operating in extreme conditions.
