Sudden Hail Barrage Turns Fairmont Backyard Into Winter Scene In Minutes

Fairmont, West Virginia – Video filmed by X user Joey Herron shows intense handheld footage recorded from his backyard porch on February 19, 2026, during a sudden, short lived hail storm that struck amid an unexpected thunderstorm.

The clip begins beneath a wooden pergola covered in bare vines. The camera moves shakily across a gray deck lined with outdoor furniture, including a blue tarped chair, a wooden rocker, and a covered grill.

Pea to quarter sized hailstones slam down like white pellets. They bounce across the planks and quickly build into a crunchy layer, turning the deck into a slick, glistening surface.

The sharp clatter echoes like rapid gunfire as ice pounds the roof above, shaking the structure. Larger chunks ricochet off railings and a picket fence, while grass and bare bushes in the yard disappear beneath the growing blanket of hail.

As the storm strengthens, the view shifts toward the side yard. A brick patio and garden beds are coated in ice, with hail piling against a wooden gate and swirling around potted plants. Fields and neighboring homes fade behind the gray curtain of the downpour.

The camera zooms closer, capturing hailstones jumping from impact points, covering a hanging bird feeder and a lawn ornament. The fierce burst lasts only a minute or two around 4 p.m., and no damage is reported despite the size of the hail.

Wider shots reveal the entire porch transformed into a winter scene in mid February. Hail skitters across the deck and collects in low spots before easing, leaving behind a calm, frosted aftermath after the storm’s sudden surge.
