Western Oklahoma, OK – Thick smoke from the Ranger Road Fire has prompted troopers to respond across the region, assisting with evacuations, rescuing livestock, and closing highways as conditions become hazardous. Authorities emphasized the dangers of traveling through smoky areas.
Driving through smoke is extremely risky due to severely reduced visibility. Troopers strongly discourage travel unless absolutely necessary and urge residents to prioritize safety.
Motorists are advised to turn on headlights to improve visibility and help other drivers see them. If stopping is required, vehicles should be moved completely off the roadway or onto the shoulder rather than halting in a lane. Extra following distance is critical, as vehicles ahead may need to stop suddenly.
Troopers will close highways or roadways when smoke makes travel impassable. While officials cannot provide guidance for every situation, they stress that safety must always be the top priority when encountering heavy smoke or other hazardous conditions.
Authorities expressed gratitude for the opportunity to support first responders in protecting Oklahomans, their homes, and animals in affected areas.
