San Carlos Park, FL – Around 8:50 a.m. on February 18, 2026, a black Jaguar F-Type rear-ended a yellow school bus on U.S. 41 near Whispering Pine Way. Fortunately, no students were on board.
As the bus slowed with red lights flashing, the Jaguar failed to brake and slammed into the rear. The force of the impact wedged the car completely under the bus, lifting its rear tires off the ground and crumpling the hood. Smoke rose from the wreckage as the bus jolted slightly before coming to a stop.
Both drivers suffered only minor injuries. The bus driver was transported to a hospital for evaluation. The Jaguar driver was cited for following too closely. Witnesses described the crash as a “loud boom” that could have been far worse had students been present.
The incident caused traffic delays and highlighted the dangers of tailgating near school zones. The Lee County Sheriff’s Office said patrols in the area will be increased to prevent reckless driving.
“The safety of our students going to and from school is our top priority,” said Sheriff Carmine Marceno. “I thank God no students were on the bus, and no one was seriously injured. Our Traffic Unit and 4th Precinct deputies will continue strict monitoring and will not tolerate reckless driving.”
