Maverick County, TX – A Texas Department of Public Safety Trooper stopped a silver Chevy Cruze on US 277 in Maverick County on February 17, 2026, and discovered an illegal immigrant hidden inside the trunk.

The driver, Mohammed Amaad of Katy, Texas, was arrested and charged with human smuggling.

Authorities noted that smuggling organizations continue to adapt to lower volumes of illegal border crossings. DPS Troopers remain vigilant, monitoring major corridors leading from the border to larger metropolitan areas.

This arrest was part of ongoing efforts under Operation Lone Star 2.0, aimed at interdicting human smuggling attempts and keeping communities safe.
