NYPD Pulls Struggling Bald Eagle From Hudson River Ice

New York, New York – NYPD officers rescued an injured bald eagle stranded on a piece of floating ice in the Hudson River on Tuesday morning.

The officers spotted the bird near the George Washington Bridge at approximately 9:30 a.m. Body camera footage captured the eagle calling out, while one officer noted that its claw was bloody.

The bird remained largely motionless as police carefully used an animal control pole to bring it aboard their boat. They then scooped the eagle onto a plastic sheet, wrapped it in a blanket, and placed it into a cage for safe transport.

Officials handed the eagle over to the Raptor Trust, an animal sanctuary, for treatment and rehabilitation. Sanctuary staff confirmed that the bird is a senior and is currently in intensive care.
