Truckee, California – Interstate 80 over Donner Summit is closed in both directions due to whiteout conditions and extremely poor visibility, authorities reported.

High winds are whipping snow across the summit, creating full whiteout conditions that blow directly back onto the roadway. Visibility is near zero, making travel extremely hazardous.

Officials warn that this is not simply inconvenient weather but unsafe conditions. Motorists are urged to avoid travel unless absolutely necessary.

The freeway will remain closed until conditions improve and it is safe to reopen. Authorities emphasize that safety takes priority over schedules.
