Daring Helicopter Rescue Saves Mariner And Dog After Sailboat Runs Aground

Winyah Bay, South Carolina – A dramatic air rescue unfolded near the shoreline as the United States Coast Guard saved a mariner and his dog after their 37-foot sailboat ran aground on February 13, 2026.

An MH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew from Coast Guard Air Facility Charleston was dispatched to the scene when the vessel, named Chusan, became stuck in the waters near the bay.

Rescuers successfully lifted both the man and his dog from the grounded sailboat and transported them safely by air.

They were taken to Georgetown Airport, where officials confirmed there were no reported medical concerns.
