Cosenza, Calabria, Italy – Heavy rains since the evening of February 12, 2026, have caused severe flooding in the province of Cosenza, Calabria, prompting over 50 emergency interventions by firefighters.
The Busento River overflowed between Cosenza and Dipignano, isolating a family of ten. Rescue operations are currently underway to reach them.
In Grisolia, ten residents trapped in flooded homes were safely evacuated using inflatable rescue boats. In Rogliano, at Contrada Pianoimbuto, teams are working to reach four people cut off by a landslide.
At Piano Lago, near the CNR, firefighters are salvaging laboratory materials from flooded facilities to protect them from water damage.
The Campagnano River also overflowed, inundating streets and urban areas, toppling light poles and damaging numerous vehicles. Additional personnel have been deployed to assist with ongoing rescue and recovery operations.
