San Bernardino, California – San Bernardino County Fire crews sprang into action Tuesday morning after a dog became trapped behind a storm drain grate near Sterling Avenue and Lynwood Drive.
Rising water levels from recent rains had left the dog stranded, unable to escape on its own. Firefighters coordinated with San Bernardino County Public Works to gain access beyond the grate. The San Bernardino City Department of Animal Services provided equipment to safely remove the animal.
After a careful rescue operation, the dog was successfully extricated and handed over to Animal Services for care and sheltering. No firefighters were injured during the rescue.
A single engine company responded, with support from the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department, Public Works, and Animal Services. Authorities reminded residents not to attempt rescues in hazardous areas like storm drains and to contact officials immediately for assistance.
