US Coast Guard Intercepts Human-Smuggling Attempt Off California Coast

San Clemente Island, California – On February 2, 2026, an Air and Marine Operations crew from Long Beach launched to intercept a panga-type vessel traveling along the west side of San Clemente Island.

The AMO team fired two warning rounds before the vessel came to a stop. Non-lethal force was then used on the operator to gain control of the situation.

A total of twelve illegal aliens were found onboard, including three minors. The interception prevented a potentially dangerous smuggling operation along the California coastline.

The operation highlights the ongoing efforts of Air and Marine Operations to monitor and secure U.S. waters against human-smuggling attempts, ensuring safety for both law enforcement personnel and those attempting unauthorized entry.
