Sapporo, Japan – A stunning replica of Tsuru-ga-jo (Aizu Castle) captivated visitors at the Sapporo Snow Festival 2026 in Odori Park, Hokkaido. Crafted from compacted snow with detailed towers and walls, the castle became the centerpiece of an unforgettable projection mapping display.
Vibrant colors, dynamic lights, historical scenes, and seasonal motifs transformed the snow sculpture into a glowing spectacle. The projections illuminated the structure for about five minutes, creating an immersive experience that drew awe from the crowd.
Festival-goers braved the cold, around -2°C, to witness the magical scene. The atmosphere buzzed with excitement, enhanced by nearby food stalls and the charm of a winter night in Odori Park.
Visitors marveled at the castle’s intricate design, with one parent noting their child’s delight at the display. The large-scale snow sculpture, modeled after Fukushima Prefecture’s historic landmark famous for its red-tiled towers and cherry blossoms, stood out among the festival’s other citizen-created works.
