Livigno, Italy – A complex rescue operation in Livigno (SO) on February 11, 2026, successfully saved two American skiers stranded at high altitude.
The pair lost their orientation as darkness fell and sent an emergency alert including their GPS coordinates.
Key to the rescue was the collaboration between the fire department’s SAPR (Remotely Piloted Aircraft Systems) unit and the Alpine Rescue Corps technicians.
Drones equipped with thermal cameras located the missing skiers in the dark and provided overhead light to assist the recovery.
Both skiers were brought to safety and are reported to be in good health.
